Appliance Repairs? I'm Not A "Fan"

I'm sure that if I was posting this on one of those "heimishe" news sites, all my commenters would be sure to know (and of course tell me) the exact meaning of the troubles that my appliances encountered over the past few days. (Lack of tznius in Klal Yisroel... Obama...)
But I'm at a loss....
You see - both my air conditioner AND my refrigerator malfunctioned over the weekend. Both appliances are less than two years old... virtually new by my standards, and both had fan blades that refused to rotate.
Am I getting some sort of divine message? And if so, what does it mean?
I eagerly await your clever interpretations.

Try using the terms:
Shabbbos,
Erev Shabbos,
Motzai Shabbos
instead of that word weekend.

This would help make these appliances function, alst Kovod Shabbos!
Hatzlocho!

Yea, probably too much dust, you gotta clean the motor and fan areas and vacuum them out more often! :):)

Wait a minute, aren't you a yekke? You probably do that already, right?

I hope you don't think I'm making fun of you. We vacuum the back of the fridge when it gets moved before Pesach and my son takes apart the a/c at the beginning of the season and cleans the filter, etc.

That said, the fan in our Maytag fridge (in the freezer) was changed when the fridge was about two years old, several years ago.

Sorry, I had nothing clever to say along those lines, I like to be practical.

I'd like to know what BLD calls Sunday?

Debbie, you beat me to it!
I was just about to gently inform BLD that not everything happens over Shabbos.
These incidences did indeed occur "over Sunday", which is why I wrote "over the weekend", but I'm so glad that BLD knows why these yissurim are being visited upon me.
Why didn't I consider the fact that I didn't use the word "Shabbos" enough?
Gee, a quick search of the blog would indicate that 112 posts of mine would disprove him......

It just means they don't make things as well as they used to. Think pantyhose.

Good luck.

Tznius aside, I still would not put pantyhose on your appliances ;-)

Thanks for the laugh!
You've reminded me of the famous Shel Silverstein poem (which I've thought about turning into a blog post MANY times...)

They've Put a Brassiere On a Camel

Not pleased that you had problems with your appliances but relieved that it isn't just my inanimate objects which act up at inconvenient times. And I don't agree with BLD. Mentioning Shabbos, but particularly mentioning any chag that is coming up is a sure way to fire up an appliance rebellion. I've never had a household appliance stop running on a Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. The ones that break on a Thursday or Friday know that the repair shop can only come on Shabbos, which doesn't work, so you're stuck until the next Monday.

This is a middah k'negged middah punishment for not posting often enough on your blog. Just as you keep your fans hanging, so your fans are keeping you hanging... :)

ProfK, I read in a secular newspaper or magazine that appliances always act up around holidays - and the repairman quoting wasn't (just) talking about Jewish holidays. It's an issue that runs across all faiths and cultures :)

Oh, and by the way there is an appliance repair business based in Fair Lawn, NJ that is owned by a frum family (I think) and services all of North Jersey - and who knows, maybe even WH - and comes on Sundays without an extra charge.

Now that's what I'm talking about! :D

It makes perfect sense that appliances break over holidays - that's when they get the most usage. Believe me, I have my share of experiences with this.... (I didn't yet have a blog the year my wisdom tooth was extracted on erev Shabbos and I was too doped up on Percocet to notice until 15 minutes before Shabbos when I realized that the oven which I had pre-set to go on while I was zoned out in bed, never did...)

My repairman was Ed Soycher (American Appliance) from Bergenfield (though he'll happily tell you all his ties to the Heights if you ask...) and I've never met a more reliable, trustworthy "mensch". I highly recommend him.

I think "heimish" people are part of the population that are less than 1% in this country. and I think the other 99% use machines (or maybe 85%). So I'm pretty sure that not only heimish websites would have advice for you on how to fix machinery. not sure what your point was, but it sounded a bit...

I think you misunderstood my reference to commenters on the "heimishe" news sites.
It has been my experience that commenters on these sites, particularly the anonymous ones, tend to blame nearly everything on either anti-semitism, lack of tznius in klal yisroel, or Obama - whether the connections are valid, tenuous or non-existent.
My comments had nothing to do with "heimishe" people, nor their use of appliances.
I'm sorry if you misunderstood.

I think I mistakenly placed my last message in this article, rather than in the previous one - the one titled six words on why moms matter!
