Wednesday's Wacky Signs - Only In Brooklyn

I had to make another trip to Brooklyn this week for [insert 'Game Show Master of Ceremonies' voice here] "all my family's yom tov needs".
I have begun referring to this borough as the "place you love to hate".
I'm so glad that there was something there worth chuckling at (it certainly wasn't the meat prices or the fact that I spent so much money on my credit card that the Fraud Protection department over at Chase declined the transaction until I gave them every bit of personal information up to and including the shoe size of my firstborn child.....).

To be filed under "Things That Make You Go "Smirk"....."

(Thanks again to Hadassah for allowing me to steal starting me off on this theme. You know how much I love a pretty Shabbos table. Go check out this recent post of hers. The fish knives alone win her honorable mention in my book!)

LOL - most people over here don't do the fish knife thing. i have often wondered why....

The Chase fraud department is the bane of my existence. They used to stop my card whenever I made a purchase over $200, and last year they wouldn't reactivate my ATM card until I could provide my phone number from the Heights from over 10 years ago.

LOVE the sign.

This was waaaay more than $200 {sheepish grin}.

It always happens to me the day I do my Brooklyn Pesach shopping. They can't figure out why I'd plunk down close to $1,000 dollars spread out over 2-3 grocery stores and a couple of clothing stores in the span of 3 hours. But this time it was only ONE store (admittedly with a ridiculous charge....)

If you know you will be spending out of norm, or in a different location than usual, you can pre-call the credit card service number and alert them in advance. they will make notes to that effect on the file which should obviate the problem.

Not always. We were doing construction and we told them that, but each person I talked to said, "Oh! I'll make a note of it." Then it happened again the next day. I found out later they'd switched fraud management companies for awhile. I never thought of that as a business people outsourced.

At least BP supports frum Yidden - both shoppers and storekeepers. Wash Hts, unfortunately has little to show for that, despite the stress on TIDE.

Your harsh comment is very vague.
Would you care to elaborate?

WH is one of the most supportive communities I know. Nobody here is alone in their needs. They are a part of a tzibbur that cares very much.

If you are referencing shopkeepers because I went elsewhere to purchase my yom tov needs, please rest assured that I did shop locally and only purchased in Broooklyn those items that *are not available* in the neighborhood.

Most people in Monsey don't use fish knives because the heimish crowd only eats gefilte fish or liver/eggs/onions which is all so soft you could eat it with a spoon and no teeth.
The fish knives are for those with a more sophisticated palate who prefer whole pieces of fresh fish, and therefor need knives to delicately separate the bones from flesh

anonymous, you gotta clarify for us!
the Heights doesn't provide shopping?
the Heights store owners aren't helpful to their customers?
what's your beef? don't leave us hanging like this!

I wonder why they didn't say "keilim mikvah"?

Maybe keilim by day, customers by night? :-)

Hi again! I nominated you for a Kreativ Blogger award. Have fun! (Don't hate me).

I don't know that we can make blanket statements about what heimish people eat, espescially when it comes off as plain old snobbery.
