Funny! But really? I can't pick up the fruit and see if it's ripe to my liking? I just have to take it as is? Is that typical for farmer's markets? I don't really get to shop at any...

Rivki: The fruit in the picture are boxed, and sold "as-is." Many stands, however, have piles of loose produce, which you may handle, squeeze, sniff, thump, etc. to your heart's content.
