Wishing Everybody A Lovely Shabbos

Just looking at these pictures makes me feel Shabbos-sy. I'm tempted to ask for an invite just to be in that room.

Of course, I wouldn't dream of doing that for the next five years at least, until I'm sure none of my kids will break anything.

Quick questions: a) Does the fish bowl not defeat the purpose of the pass-through? and b) What on earth is hanging in the corner of you rdining room?

Staying Afloat -

You are cordially invited any time. Thanks for the kind words.

The fish bowl does interfere with the pass through to a certain extent, but we don't use it much for passing anyway... more for allowing those working in the kitchen (i.e. me) to be able to participate in the table conversation without missing too much.

What you see in the corner is a traditional German Shabbos Lamp. Women used to light these as their Shabbos candles and they served to provide light for the family and the Shabbos table as well. These Shabbos lamps are depicted in many scenes by the German artist Moritz Oppenheim in his Scenes from Traditional Jewish Family Life.

You're getting old.
You asked me that already when I posted the last picture.
