Scene Around Town - Subway on the Street

I love photos of the unexpected.
I've seen these subway cars being hauled down the street at night, but the photos I managed were never quite good enough.
Now, I'm not quite sure why they couldn't transport these trains on the existing underground rails that they ride on, but I thank the MTA for a wonderful and interesting photo op ;)

it kind of looks like they were stripped down. maybe they were on their way to the subway reef? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/12/subway-car-reefs-act-as-a_n_572251.html

Are you kidding? This is NYC. If it isn't nailed down, it was probably stripped down ;)

Those subway cars are on their way to Ohio for scrapping. They stopped reefing after the MTA discovered stainless steel cars deteriorated faster in salt water.
